University of Colorado at Boulder Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson will provide a glimpse of his broad goals and priorities for the campus in a speech on Friday, Sept. 8, in Old Main Chapel.

The talk, which is open to the campus and public, begins at 8:15 a.m. following an informal breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on the Norlin Quad outside of Old Main on the CU-Boulder campus.

In his first public address to the faculty, Peterson will briefly discuss CU-Boulder's role as the flagship institution of the CU system, his focus on improving undergraduate and graduate student quality through an emphasis on intellectual inquiry, creating a "climate of inclusiveness" to enhance diversity and developing a campus plan for future growth and investment, among other topics.

Peterson took the helm of the Boulder campus on July 17, following his appointment by the Board of Regents on May 19. He came to CU-Boulder from his previous position as provost at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

Prior to serving as provost at Rensselaer, Peterson was head of the mechanical engineering department and executive associate dean of the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University. He also served as program director of the Thermal Transport and Thermal Processing Division of the National Science Foundation while on the faculty at Texas A&M. Peterson has authored or co-authored 12 books or book chapters, 150 journal articles and holds eight patents.

A Kansas native, he and his wife, Val, have four grown children.
