A student of the University of Colorado at Boulder is seeking donations after he and a friend crawled a world-record 32.26 miles on their hands and knees last month in Colorado Springs to raise money for pediatric AIDS research.

CU-Boulder senior Leo Chau completed the 45-hour-long crawl at 3:30 a.m. June 11. He and friend Sean Duffy aimed to raise $20,000 for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, but they remain more than $1,000 short of that goal.

Chau and Duffy crawled 153 laps around the track at Rampart High School, their alma mater, through lightning, heavy rain and hail, taking 15-minute breaks but always remaining in the crawling position. Both needed emergency medical treatment for dehydration and fatigue following the crawl.

The pair broke a 13-year-old record of 31.44 miles and have submitted documentation of their feat to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Donations can be made to the pediatric AIDS foundation via the Web site at: by calling the Glaser Foundation at (888) 499-HOPE.
