Twenty-five students from the University of Colorado at Boulder studying international business in London are safe and accounted for in their flats in the city's financial district following today's terrorist attack, CU-Boulder officials said.

All of the students also have contacted or attempted to contact their families following the terrorist attack.

Professor Michael Palmer, who has taught the business class in London for 18 years, notified all 25 students about 5 a.m. MDT today after learning of the terrorist attack on several transportation centers in London. Palmer advised students to stay in their flats and to notify their families immediately, according to Nancy Stubbs, director of CU-Boulder's Study Abroad program.

"Professor Palmer called me at 7 a.m. this morning to inform me that all of our students in London who are in his class are safe," said Stubbs. "He walked to their flats this morning as soon as he got word of the attack to make sure that all the students were accounted for and were safe. He then instructed them to notify their families and told them not to leave their apartments today."

The class, titled Seminar in International Business and Finance, began July 2 and extends through Aug. 5 following the same schedule as other CU-Boulder summer courses in the B session of summer school, Stubbs said.

In addition to the students' calls, all parents of students enrolled in the program have been contacted by International Education staff members to assure parents of their children's safety, Stubbs said.

Whether the class will be able to continue given the terrorist attack and damage to London's transportation system, which is used by the students and Professor Palmer, is being evaluated, Stubbs said. The possibility of changing the class meeting location is being examined, she said.

The Study Abroad program of the CU-Boulder International Education Office has approximately 252 students currently enrolled in 25 programs in countries throughout Europe, Asia and Semester at Sea, Stubbs said. The program is one of the most active Study Abroad programs of any public university in the country with more than 1,000 students enrolled annually to study in countries overseas and through the Semester at Sea program.
