A 19-year-old student at the University of Colorado at Boulder was injured in a fall from a second-floor roof of Farrand Residence Hall on campus early Sunday morning.
Michael Ocasio, a freshman from Colorado Springs, apparently climbed out his fourth-floor window onto a third-floor roof at about 2:15 a.m. He apparently lost his balance and slid to a second-floor roof before falling about 25 feet to the ground. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident.
Housing staff, residence hall advisers, CU Police and emergency medical staff responded to the scene. Ocasio was hospitalized and his condition is 聯critical but stable,聰 according to family members.
Staff from CU-Boulder聮s office of Victim聮s Assistance responded to the hospital to provide support to the student聮s friends and family. The campus聮s Housing Department also arranged for hotel lodging for the family. In addition, counseling services are being offered to the student聮s friends or residents of Farrand Hall as needed.
Ron Stump, CU-Boulder vice chancellor for student affairs, said, 聯Our thoughts are with this young man and his family during this extremely difficult time. The campus continues to offer its ongoing support and help to members of the family.聰
