The Board of Â鶹ÒùÔº will convene a special meeting of the Board, Thursday, February 3, 2005 on the CU Fitzsimons campus. This special meeting was called by Board Chair Jerry Rutledge, Vice-Chair Gail Schwartz and board members Steve Bosley, Cindy Carlisle, Michael Carrigan, Pat Hayes, Tom Lucero, Paul Schauer, and Peter Steinhauer.

The Board of Regents is taking this unusual action to consider the recently publicized comments of the Chair of the Ethnic Studies Department at CU-Boulder, Ward Churchill. Mr. Churchill's comments regarding the events of September 11, 2001 have resulted in substantial controversy and the Board of Regents intends to consider the concerns of members of the public and the university community at the special meeting.

The Board will continue to welcome written public comment in advance of the meeting.

The Board reiterates the statement made by Chancellor DiStefano that Mr. Churchill's views are his own. The opinions he has expressed do not represent the views of University of Colorado Regents, administration, faculty, staff or students.

More details regarding the special meeting will be available from Secretary of the Board of Regents, Millie Cortez, on Monday, January 31, 2005. She can be reached at the Board office at (303) 492-8203.
