A panel of writers, editors and publishers will share the secrets of succeeding in the competitive consumer magazine industry on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 5 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 150 at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

The event is part of the Career Series sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and is free and open to the public.

Panelists will include Andy Bigford, former editor of Ski; Rebecca Landwehr, senior editor of 5280 magazine; Jeff Mason, owner of a publishing and sports marketing company; Alex Markels, a former Wall Street Journal staff reporter and New York Times Co. magazine editor; and freelancer Paul Tolme, who writes for Newsweek, Ski and National Wildlife magazine.

Landwehr and Mason are alumni of the School of Journalism. Markels and Tolme were fellows in the Ted Scripps Fellowships program administered by the school's Center for Environmental Journalism.

"These experts will share inside information about the hard work and rewards that go with careers in high-profile consumer magazines," said Beth Gaeddert, director of career services and external affairs for the school.
