An open house featuring a student recreation center and other amenities at Bear Creek Commons at Williams Village at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, from noon to 4 p.m.

The new 11,000-square-foot building also houses a police annex and leasing office for the Bear Creek Apartments and multipurpose area. Tours of the facility will be conducted during the open house.

The fitness center is open to all fee-paying students and includes Cybex resistance equipment and free weights, along with cardiovascular equipment such as elliptical trainers, bikes and steppers. Bear Creek Commons is the third building recently constructed at Williams Village and complements two apartment complexes.

"One of our primary goals for Williams Village is to create a community and this facility is another step along the way," said Derrick Watson, CU-Boulder project coordinator.

Bear Creek Apartments was constructed and is managed by a private developer, American Campus Communities. The CU Foundation facilitated and financed the development through the use of tax-exempt revenue bonds. The University of Colorado department of Recreation Services is equipping and providing programming for the new commons building.
