A May graduate of the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business says her four years in business school taught her that "giving back to the community is a very important thing," and she's wasted no time finding a way to turn that belief into reality.

On Aug. 26 the Boulder Broker Inn Hotel will host a fashion show from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with proceeds to benefit Habitat for Humanity, the "I Have a Dream" Foundation and the YWCA. The show was planned and coordinated by 22-year-old Susan Tie, a May graduate in marketing who convinced her boss that The Broker should sponsor the event.

"I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful boss who let me coordinate an event that would help get the community together for a night of fashion, fun and fund raising," Tie said. Tie is an external marketing manager for The Boulder Broker Inn Hotel.

Champagne, wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served at the fund-raiser. Tickets are $20 and are available in advance by calling (303) 725-5226. Discounts are available for group orders.

Tie said she chose the three charities because she thinks they all play important roles in providing assistance to distinct groups of people in need. However, the burning of several Habitat for Humanity homes in Greeley last month also was an important factor in her decision about which groups to support.

"I chose those three charities because they all represent different causes that are very much in need of help," said Tie. "And, the burning of the Habitat homes made me feel it was especially important to include them."

The choice of a fashion show as a fund-raiser stems from Tie's love of fashion, which she has dabbled in since childhood by designing clothes.

Tie has used her university connections to recruit models through various sororities, in addition to recruiting other CU-Boulder students. Delta Sigma Pi, a business fraternity that Tie belonged to while in school, also is providing volunteers.

Fashions from the Boulder clothiers The Ritz and Cat-Man-Do will be featured in addition to Lapsaky of Superior, which sells organic cotton baby clothes. The children's clothing line will be featured first in the fashion show followed by "fun and funky clothes" from The Ritz, but no costumes, and "exotic clothes from around the world" from Cat-Man-Do.

Clothing from CU student fashion designers Britney Erin Rich and Nichole Blair, a close friend of Tie, also will be part of the show.

Co-sponsor of the event is the Boulder-based entertainment publication Thrill Magazine.
