The University of Colorado at Boulder is making solid progress on implementing the action plan for oversight and reorganization of its intercollegiate athletics program, according to CU-Boulder Provost Phil DiStefano.

DiStefano presented a report on the most recent implementation steps during a study session by the CU Board of Regents Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Fitzsimons campus in Denver.

In his remarks, the provost focused on the formation of the Academic Policy Board, a group that will advise him and the chancellor on a wide range of athletics-related issues. He announced the membership of the board, which will include representatives of faculty, staff and students serving for varying terms. They are:

. Scott Adler, chair, political science faculty member, three-year term

. Liz Bradley, computer science faculty, one-year term

. Ted Snow, astrophysical and planetary sciences faculty, two-year term

. Mel Branch, mechanical engineering faculty, three-year term

. Patty Limerick, Center for the American West faculty, two-year term

. David Clough, chemical engineering faculty, two-year term

. Cal Duncan, business faculty, one-year term

. Pamela Diggle, ecology and evolutionary biology faculty, two-year term

. Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs, three-year term

. Bill Kaempfer, vice provost, three-year term

. Karen Morrison, associate athletics director, three-year term

. Veronica Crespin, UCSU representative, one-year term

. Veronica Johns-Richardson, representative of the Student Athlete Advisory Council, one-year term

. Pi'i Aiu, head volleyball coach, one-year term

DiStefano said the charge for the board is being drafted and will be presented for review by the members at its first meeting, expected in early fall semester. He said the group will provide advice and counsel on such athletics issues as admissions standards, recruiting practices, hiring processes and long-range planning, among others.

During the study session, DiStefano also described steps taken to implement changes in the organizational structure outlined in the Action Plan. He focused on the duties assumed by Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs, who is providing additional oversight for integrating athletics more fully into the life of the campus.

Stump already has begun working in partnership with the athletics director on a number of initiatives, DiStefano said. The new duties are expected to make up about half of the vice chancellor's time, with key student affairs personnel taking on added duties "to help maintain and enhance services offered by Student Affairs," he said.

Working with the department, Stump will focus on eight primary goals:

. Enhancing student-athlete welfare

. Fully integrating the department within the campus

. Ensuring compliance with recruiting policies

. Enacting appropriate team rules and adjudication processes

. Assisting in addressing issues of diversity, gender equity, sexual harassment and violence against women

. Accomplishing Athletics Vision 2010, the department's strategic plan

. Maintaining a highly competitive athletics program

. Enhancing the reputation of the department

DiStefano said Stump, who reports to the provost, will work closely with athletics staff and the athletics director in carrying out his duties.
