The CU-Boulder Friends of the Libraries will present a talk by local mystery writer Bonnie Ramthun at the l2th annual Just Desserts event on Friday, May 21.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Fleming Law Building on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. A dessert reception will precede the program.

Ramthun is the author of the Eileen Reed mystery series. Her novels include "Ground Zero," "Earthquake Games," and "The Thirteenth Skull." With a degree in computer science and an itch to see the wild side of the defense world, Ramthun has worked in helicopter crash investigation, space station prototyping, robotic automobile assembly and missile-defense war gaming.

In "Ground Zero," Colorado Springs Detective Eileen Reed takes us into the top-secret world of war gaming. It is an espionage thriller using everyday people caught up in extraordinary, world-altering events.

In "Earthquake Games," Detective Reed returns to head up another potentially earth-shattering investigation. In her latest book, "The Thirteenth Skull," Ramthun combines science, mystery and archaeology for a tale of murder and suspense.

Free parking for the Just Desserts event will be available in lot 402 south of the Fleming Law Building. The site can be reached by taking Broadway to Regent Drive and turning south to Kittredge Loop Road.

Just Desserts is sponsored by the Daily Camera.
