A dozen distinguished guest faculty members from all over the world will teach a series of unique summer courses starting in May at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Astronaut James Voss, CNN senior editor James Schiffman and Brown University professor-at-large and MacArthur fellow Shirley Brice Heath are among the guest instructors, in addition to professors from the universities of Vienna, Austria, and Montesquieu-Bordeaux, France. They are scheduled to teach classes as part of the CU-Boulder First Faculty in Residence Summer Term beginning May 10.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from a group of accomplished scholars and experts," said Ann Heinz, associate vice chancellor for CU-Boulder's summer session.

Among the First Faculty in Residence summer courses are:

* "Fundamentals of Human Space Flight" with James Voss, associate dean of engineering for external affairs, Auburn University. June 1 to July 2.

* "Senior Seminar: 9/11, American Politics and Popular Culture" with Bruce Gronbeck, distinguished professor of public address, University of Iowa. June 1 to July 2.

* "Issues in German Thought: Divas, Cultures and Theories of Stardom" with Christopher Laferl, associate professor, University of Vienna. May 10 to May 27.

* "Later Language Development for Older Children and Adolescents" with Shirley Brice Heath, professor-at-large, Brown University, visiting professor, Watson Institute. July 13 to July 23.
