Â鶹ÒùÔº at the University of Colorado at Boulder will soon have additional living space and new recreational facilities at Bear Creek Apartments at Williams Village.

A second 499-bed apartment building is scheduled to open Aug. 16. Construction of a new commons building to house a recreation center, police annex, leasing office and multipurpose facility began last month and is scheduled to open in September.

"The university is very excited about the opening of the Bear Creek Commons facility," said Derrick Watson, CU-Boulder project coordinator. "It is our hope that students from Williams Village and Bear Creek Apartments will take advantage of this new amenity."

The fitness center, open to all fee-paying students along with graduate students living at Bear Creek Apartments, will include cardiovascular equipment and free weights.

The first 495-bed apartment building opened last fall. Features include private and shared bedrooms, study lounges and business centers, assigned parking, laundry and other on-site amenities.

Rental rates include telephone, high-speed Internet services and premium satellite television services, utilities and furnishings. Bus transportation to and from campus is provided.

Bear Creek Apartments at Williams Village was constructed and is managed by a private developer, American Campus Communities, a national provider of student housing. The CU Foundation facilitated and financed the development through the use of tax-exempt revenue bonds. The University of Colorado Student Union and CU Recreation Services provided additional support for the new commons building.
