Examining the financing strategies of Internet and telecommunications startup firms during the boom and bust of the 1990s will be one of several topics addressed in a panel discussion March 30 at CU-Boulder's Fourth Annual Silicon Flatirons Conference on Startup Businesses.

The conference, titled "Financing a Technology Startup: Opportunities and Pitfalls," begins at 3:15 p.m. in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom located in the Fleming Law Building on the CU-Boulder campus. A one-hour reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. will follow the discussion.

"With the Internet bubble and burst behind us, the time is ripe for looking back and forward at financing strategies," explained Associate Professor Phil Weiser, executive director of the Silicon Flatirons Telecommunications Program. "I am delighted that we are once again bringing together such a talented group of speakers."

The panels will feature a host of industry experts, venture capitalists and CEOs and presidents of high-technology industry including Jack Goeken, one of the founders of MCI Corp.; David Flowers, senior vice president and treasurer of Liberty Media Corp.; and Peter Mannetti, partner at iSherpa and former head of US West Wireless.

The conference is co-sponsored by the CU Entrepreneurial Law Program, the University of Colorado Tech Transfer Office, the Robert H. and Beverly A. Deming Center for Entrepreneurship and the Silicon Flatirons Telecommunications Program, which was established four years ago to examine cutting-edge issues at the intersection of telecommunications technology, business and policy.

Seating is limited, so attendees should register in advance at . A registration fee is required. Silicon Flatirons program supporters, CU students, faculty and staff will be admitted free of charge.
