Faculty in the new Hazel Gates Woodruff Senior Scholars Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold a book talk Dec. 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Woodruff Women's Studies Cottage reading room.

"Woodruff Senior Scholars are tenured men and women faculty who are distinguished in their fields," said Professor Polly McLean, interim director of women's studies. "They have a history of teaching and a record of substantial scholarship and research in women, gender and sexuality studies, among other areas."

The Woodruff Women's Studies Cottage is located on the east side of Broadway between College and Pennsylvania Avenues just north of the Economics Building.

The following scholars will discuss recently published works:

Scholars will teach one course per semester for women's studies, which McLean said will add immeasurably to the rigor and vitality of the program.

Todd Gleeson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, appointed McLean interim director of women's studies in August.

She is a professor at the CU-Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She also is an affiliated faculty member with the women's studies and honors departments and has been a faculty member at CU-Boulder since 1984.

McLean replaces Professor Christina Yoshinaga-Itano, who resigned from her position in women's studies to assume the post of interim vice provost and executive vice chancellor for diversity. A search process for a permanent director in women's studies has not yet been determined.

McLean said that she is excited about additional plans for enriching the women's studies program, including the development of an advisory board and curriculum enhancements.

Women's studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder is the only program in the state to provide a structured program of undergraduate study culminating in a degree in women's studies.
