Family Weekend, the annual fall event that welcomes families of University of Colorado at Boulder students to campus will take place Oct. 10-11.

The event draws about 4,000 parents and family members from across the United States and from several foreign countries to participate in a variety of activities. In order to help the visitors get around town, the city of Boulder is providing free Hop bus passes.

Activities begin on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 a.m. with the sixth annual Family Weekend Golf Tournament at Flatirons Golf Course and continue through Saturday evening with several entertainment choices, including a performance by national a cappella champions the 17th Avenue Allstars on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom.

Chancellor Richard L. Byyny and a faculty guest speaker will welcome families and students at a luncheon Oct. 10 at the UMC and walking tours of the campus will be offered by the Office of Admissions from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Other Oct. 10 events include multicultural entertainment at the Dennis Small Center in UMC room 457 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and a free jazz ensemble concert at Macky Auditorium with guest artist and Grammy-winner Randy Brecker playing trumpet at 7:30 p.m.

Tours are scheduled for the National Center for Atmospheric Research, CU-Boulder's Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, the Dal Ward Athletic Center and the CU Heritage Center. The Office of Admissions will conduct campus walking tours and a guided tour of Boulder also will be offered. Families are free to tour the CU Museum of Natural History and the CU Art Galleries during regular hours.
