Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and author Vine Deloria Jr. will be among the featured readers during the seventh annual "Words to Stir the Soul: Readings from the American West" events presented by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West.

Deloria will participate in the Boulder event on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Old Main Chapel on the CU-Boulder campus. Hickenlooper will read as part of the Denver event on Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the LoDo Tattered Cover Book Store at 16th and Wyncoop streets.

Both events, featuring different readers and reading selections, are free and open to the public.

The popular program celebrates the rich literary heritage of the American West as more than a dozen well-known community members, authors, CU-Boulder professors and students read segments from their favorite Western-inspired literature for up to five minutes.

Other readers will include Tattered Cover Book Store owner Joyce Meskis and author Manuel Ramos in Denver, and retired CU-Boulder professor and poet Reg Saner and Daily Camera associate editor and columnist Clay Evans in Boulder.

A reception will follow the Boulder event in the CU-Boulder Heritage Center.
