High school juniors from throughout Colorado will participate in the Business Leadership Program, sponsored by the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business Diversity Office, during June 15-21.

The 30 participants are the first in their families to attend college, economically disadvantaged or have other attributes that contribute to a diverse population. The students have demonstrated leadership potential, possess an interest in business-related fields, maintain excellent academic standards and have completed their junior year of high school.

During their week at CU, students will become familiar with basic business principles and attend workshops on giving presentations and resume writing. Â鶹ÒùÔº also will have the opportunity to talk with guest speakers from major corporations and Leeds School faculty, students and administrators.

Over the course of the week, students will research an industry and create a television commercial, a newspaper advertisement and a brochure for their company. At the end of the week they will put their skills to work in an advertising campaign competition. Each member of the winning team will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the Leeds School.

"The Business Leadership Program is designed to give tangible experiences on what students can expect at the collegiate level," said Aswad Allen, director of diversity affairs at the Leeds School. "The program also serves as an inroad to scholarship and academic support systems here at the school."

Each student will be a "CU student for a day" and socialize with Leeds School students and peers from different high schools. The program covers the cost of tuition, room and board.

The program supports the Leeds School's commitment to diversity and its focus on the connection between business and society.

Key Equipment Finance is the gold corporate sponsor of this year's event, donating $75,000 to the program. Other corporate sponsors include Pepsi Bottling Group, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Level 3 Communications, Sun Microsystems, Target and Accenture.
