About 750 physicists will gather at the University of Colorado at Boulder May 20 through May 24 for the 34th annual conference of the Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics of the American Physical Society.

Nobel laureates Carl Wieman and Eric Cornell will be among the scientists attending the national event.

Atomic, molecular and optical physics covers a diverse range of subjects from medical imaging and geological exploration to tests of Einstein's theories of relativity and the fundamental properties of atoms and molecules.

As part of the conference, James Randi, an internationally recognized investigator of paranormal and pseudoscientific claims, will give a free, public lecture on Wednesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. in CU-Boulder's Macky Auditorium.

Randi will speak on "Search for the Chimera: An Overview of How Science Has Pursued Magic and Miracles in the 20th Century and Into the 21st Century." His lecture is intended for a general audience and no reservations are required.
