Dick and Jean Engebretson donated $1 million to the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business today to support various initiatives.

Dick Engebretson earned his MBA in 1972 from the school and today he is the executive vice president of dmg world media, an international exhibition and publishing company. Jean Engebretson graduated with her master's degree in education in 1976.

The gift was announced at the MBA graduation ceremony on May 9.

After graduating from CU, Dick Engebretson formed his own real estate appraisal company in Boulder. In 1984, he launched a trade exhibition company, TSI Productions, which he sold to dmg world media in 2001. Upon selling TSI Productions, he assumed his current position.

An international exhibition and publishing company, dmg world media produces trade exhibitions, consumer shows and fairs. It also generates 70 trade-related magazines, newspapers, directories and market reports. The company is one of the largest media companies in the United Kingdom.

Dick Engebretson has significantly contributed to CU-Boulder over the years. From 1986 to 1987, he was the president of the CU-Boulder National Alumni Association. He received an Alumni Recognition Award in 1986. In 1990, he established the Engebretson Fellowship at the Leeds School of Business, and he currently serves as a member of the Leeds School of Business Advisory Council.

Engebretson also is involved with his community. He was elected mayor of Deephaven, Minn., in 1991 and has consistently contributed to charities in his community.
