James Randi, internationally recognized investigator of paranormal and pseudoscientific claims, will give a free, public lecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder on May 21.
Randi will speak on "Search for the Chimera: An Overview of How Science Has Pursued Magic and Miracles in the 20th Century and Into the 21st Century" at 7:30 p.m. in Macky Auditorium.
His lecture is intended for a general audience and no reservations are required.
Randi has an international reputation as a magician and escape artist, but is best known as the world's most tireless investigator and demystifier of paranormal and pseudoscientific claims. His lecture will address everything from UFOs to the Bermuda Triangle, from psychic "spoonbending" to simple magicians' tricks certified as miracles.
He is the author of nine books and has been featured on national television shows including "20/20," "Dateline" and "Larry King Live." He has lectured at the White House, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Oxford, Princeton, Stanford and Yale, and is the winner of a MacArthur Foundation "genius" fellowship.
Randi will lecture as part of the 34th annual conference of the Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics of the American Physical Society to be held on the CU-Boulder campus May 20-24. About 750 scientists are expected to attend.
