Colorado Engineer Magazine, a student publication at the University of Colorado at Boulder since 1904, brought home 10 awards including first-place Magazine of the Year from Engineering College Magazines Associated this spring.
ECMA, which has 14 active members including Purdue, Cornell, the University of Wisconsin and other top engineering schools, presented the awards April 5 in Minneapolis.
Colorado Engineer Magazine is a free publication featuring articles on technology and other areas of student interest. The magazine is distributed three times a year to CU-Boulder students and selected alumni. Â鶹ÒùÔº volunteer their time to write articles, design layouts and sell advertising. The most active students receive scholarships from an endowment established by alumni of the magazine.
"CEM feels and looks like a professional industry magazine," wrote one of the ECMA judges. "The time and thought put into it is evident. Its staff clearly works like a team to present good stories with great design."
"CEM's strengths are creativity in content and presentation," said another judge. "The look and the writing makes this magazine appealing even to non-engineers."
Mechanical engineering major Toni Newville and aerospace engineering major Evan Thomas are the magazine's co- editors-in-chief.
In addition to Magazine of the Year, CEM won first-place awards for cover design and article design. Second-place awards were received for publication design and editing. Third-place awards included art and illustration, feature writing, regular feature, single issue and online edition.
