Editors: Photographers are welcome to take "work in progress" shots of the exhibits during the week of April 28-May 2. Contact Instructor Bob Nauman (303- 448-1970) for locations where students will be working on their projects.

Final exams are looming for students as the end of the semester approaches at the University of Colorado at Boulder. But for one art class in the Kittredge Honors Program, the final exam means creating a public art exhibit.

The class, "Experiencing Art," taught by fine arts Instructor Bob Nauman, requires students to complete their projects by May 5.

The 14-student class is divided into three groups, each working on a project that will be displayed in the Kittredge Residence Hall Complex. One group is decorating four benches designed to give a sense of the Kittredge community. The second group is creating a piece of faux "stained glass," and the third is creating a photographic collage, according to Nauman. Each exhibit will have something to do with the Kittredge community, he said.

"I wanted the class to experience the process of public work, so this project has gone from rough proposals, to budget submission to final approval," Nauman said.

The projects will stay up at least through the final exam period, which ends May 8, according to Nauman. He said it is possible the benches will become a permanent fixture of the area.

The Kittredge Honors Program is the residential part of the Honors Program at CU-Boulder, and is located in Buckingham Hall in the Kittredge Complex. The program's mission is to provide a supportive community that fosters academic success while providing students with the contacts and information they need to graduate with honors from CU-Boulder, according to Paul Strom, director of the Kittredge Honors Program.
