"Em Bed With the Military: The Media at War" is the subject of a panel discussion at the University of Colorado at Boulder on April 24 at 7 p.m. in Engineering Center room 245.
Scheduled panelists are Charlie Brennan, Rocky Mountain News reporter and embedded journalist who recently returned from Iraq; Vicky Sama, former CNN producer; Michael Tracey, former head of the Broadcasting Research Unit at the BBC in London and faculty member at CU-Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication; and Juliet Wittman, a reporter for Westword.
Topics to be discussed include whether embedded journalism is good journalism, what effect real-time/24-hour news coverage of the war has had on the American public and how the media ensure fair, accurate and balanced war coverage.
The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Journalism Board and media studies students involved in "Operation Media Freedom," a weeklong effort to raise awareness on campus and in the Boulder community of a variety of media issues.
The CU-Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication is one of only two accredited programs in the field in Colorado and is the only one in the state to offer a full, integrated range of undergraduate, graduate and professional studies.
