Recipients of the University of Colorado at Boulder Community Builder Brick Awards will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, April 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Memorial Center Aspen Rooms 285-289.

"People form the cornerstone of our community," said Jennifer Simpson, coordinator for the program. "In stressful times there are always individuals whose actions serve as touchstones, keeping us grounded and supported through the challenges. The Building Community Campaign recognizes the contributions of those who have helped make this community a more open, welcoming and supportive one."

The honorees include:

Deb Coffin, director, Housing Department: Coffin was acknowledged for her role in working with the Residential Hall Association. By accepting and incorporating student input in programs and services, Coffin has improved the overall quality of the residential hall experience.Ìý

Clark Oldroyd, vice president, CU Alumni Association: Oldroyd was recognized for keeping students and alumni, especially minority alumni associations, involved with the university. He also administers the scholarship programs for alumni chapters and the Parents Association.Ìý

Lynn Snyder, chair, department of speech, language and hearing sciences: Professor Snyder was acknowledged for creating a respectful environment where faculty members have an equal voice in departmental decisions and receive recognition and support. She is credited with developing the Instructor Bill of Rights to promote respect, dignity and appreciation among faculty members.

Winners were nominated by students, staff and faculty for their outstanding contributions to building a more open and welcoming community at CU-Boulder. Each winner will receive an engraved sandstone brick as a tribute to his or her work in the campus community. The sandstone awards are made of the same bricks used for CU-Boulder buildings and symbolize the commitment of awardees to building a strong foundation for community.

The Building Community Committee is a group of faculty, staff and students who are committed to fostering an environment that is welcoming, enriching and inclusive of all members of the University of Colorado at Boulder.
