Fred Glover, professor of operations management at the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business, has been named a fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences.

Other INFORMS fellows include four Nobel Prize winners, 23 Von Neumann Prize winners and 44 members of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences.

The fellows award recognizes outstanding achievements in at least one of five areas of operations management and management science: research, practical application, education, displaying significant responsibility for applying the profession's techniques within organizations and service to INFORMS or the profession.

"Fred is one of the world's most influential researchers in the field of management science and operations research," said Manuel Laguna, chair of the Leeds School's systems division. "His work has initiated new fields of study and has been successfully applied in a wide variety of organizations. I believe that the visibility of this award will have a positive impact in our student and faculty recruiting efforts and will increase our opportunities for funded research."

Glover's work is used in creating computer software systems for business, science and government applications such as resource planning, telecommunications, financial analysis and energy distribution. Glover holds the MediaOne chair of system science and in this capacity consults with MediaOne on high-level economic strategic plans.

Glover, a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Distinguished Research Lecturer, previously received the INFORMS Von Neumann Award in 1998 for distinguished lifetime contributions to the field of operations management.

INFORMS is an international scientific society with more than 10,000 members dedicated to applying scientific methods to help improve decision-making, management and operations. Members of INFORMS work in business, government and academia. For more information visit .
