Four finalists have been named for the position of dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder, according to Anne Heinz, dean of the division of Continuing Education and chair of the search committee.
The finalists for the position are:
Richard Campbell, professor and director at the School of Journalism at Middle Tennessee State University since 1997. Campbell holds a bachelor's degree from Marquette University, a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a doctoral degree from Northwestern University. Campus visit is Feb. 23-25.
Michael R. Real has been with Ohio University as a professor in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism since 2000 and also serves as its director. Prior to his affiliation with Ohio University, Real was a professor in the School of Communication at San Diego State University from 1994 to 2000. He received his bachelor's degree from St. Paul Seminary, a master's degree from St. Thomas University and a doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Campus visit is Feb. 25-27.
Alexis S. Tan has been professor and director of the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University since 1990. He was chair of the department of communications at WSU from 1986 to 1990. Tan has a bachelor's degree from the University of the Philippines and both a master's degree and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Campus visit is Feb. 12-14.
Paul S. Voakes is an associate professor at the Indiana University School of Journalism. Prior to his appointment to the Indiana University faculty in 1994, Voakes held academic positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley. He received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Davis. Campus visit is Feb 16-18.
The post is expected to be filled by July 1.
