CU Hosts News Briefing on NASA Space Shuttle Columbia
and Aftermath of Shuttle explosion
The University of Colorado at Boulder will host a news briefing at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, at the Events/Conference Center on Regent Drive, room 4, to answer questions about CU's role in the Shuttle Columbia mission, the aftermath of the shuttle explosion and the possible effects of the tragedy on CU-Boulder space programs.
Speaking at the briefing will be Robert Culp, assistant adviser to CU alumna Kalpana Chawla, who was one of seven astronauts who died aboard the shuttle Saturday; David Klaus, a NASA astronaut candidate and aerospace engineering research associate at CU-Boulder; Michael Shull, chair of the Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences Department; and Daniel Baker, director of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics.
The four scientists will discuss the history of the CU space program, CU-Boulder's effectiveness in designing and building experiments for space flight, the university's position as one of the top NASA-funded university space programs and why CU-Boulder has produced so many astronauts, including Chawla.Ìý
The short briefing will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
