The electromagnetic spectrum, short laser pulses and how fiber optics work will be among the topics discussed and explained through a number of experiments at the "Saturday Physics Series" show Saturday, Feb. 8, at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Henry Kapteyn, a physics professor at CU-Boulder, will present the free 90-minute show at 2 p.m. in Duane Physics, room G1B20.

During the show geared toward a high-school age audience, Kapteyn will explain and demonstrate the various applications of lasers and how optical communications work, as well as show examples of different lasers.

"This show will explain these things in more detail than the other shows geared toward a younger audience," Kapteyn said. "We're not sure what will be the most popular experiment with the high school kids, but we have some interesting demonstrations for this show."

The Saturday Physics Series is sponsored by an outreach grant from the Division of Continuing Education at CU-Boulder. Though intended primarily for students of high-school age, the shows are educational and entertaining to people of all ages.
