Carlos García, director of the University Memorial Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been elected to a two-year term as member-at-large of the Board of Trustees for the Association of College Unions International.

The appointment begins in March 2004 at the conclusion of the annual national conference in Washington, D.C.

"I'm delighted to have this opportunity to serve the association and the profession," said García. As one member of an eight-member board, his responsibilities will range from designing and directing the work of ad hoc and task force groups to participating in the review and development of the association's budget and operating systems.

ACUI is a professional association that is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for professionals involved with student unions and student activities. More than 1,000 universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Korea, Japan and Australia are members of ACUI.

Carlos García has been the director of the UMC since 1997. For more than 25 years, he has been professionally involved in student unions. García served 20 of those years at the University of Texas at El Paso as student union director, associate director, assistant to the director, housing director and food service director.

He received his bachelor's degree in 1979 and his master's of arts with an emphasis in higher education administration in 1996 from the University of Texas, El Paso.
