The CU-Boulder departments of Transportation Services and Parking and Transit Services are merging to join resources and work collaboratively to address campus parking and transportation issues.

The joined departments will be known as Parking and Transportation Services.

Derrick Watson, assistant to the vice chancellor for administration, said "merging Transportation Services with Parking and Transit Services will bring together two units that have been working on different elements of the same issue. Unifying the departments will better support coordination of programs that address commuter access at CU-Boulder, and help mitigate campus parking demand."

Transportation Services was a part of the former Business and Financial Services Department, which was disbanded last year. During the past year, Transportation Services has been reporting to Watson while an analysis of the department was completed to determine where it should be located.

Transportation Services will now report to Joe Roy, director of Parking and Transit Services. The process of merging the two departments began Nov. 1.

Transportation Services is responsible for all state vehicles operated by CU-Boulder departments. The department also operates the Williams Village bus service and provides vehicle maintenance and leasing services, defensive driving courses and Commercial Drivers License driver training and testing to campus departments.

Parking and Transit Services is responsible for oversight of campus parking facilities and the faculty-staff Ecopass program, and collaborated with the city of Boulder and RTD to develop the STAMPEDE, a high-frequency bus service connecting CU-Boulder's east and main campuses.
