The Student Academic Services Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder has started a new Pre-Health Program available to SASC-eligible students interested in the health sciences field.

"The program provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in health professions to be part of an environment that is academically supportive," said Ann Scarritt, mathematics and science coordinator for SASC. "Â鶹ÒùÔº who are interested in both traditional and alternative medicine will be able to make connections in the health field, learn more about options in the field and obtain academic support to make their goals a reality."

Activities being planned for the program include touring Boulder Community Hospital, shadowing doctors while they work, community service work and study sessions. The program also plans to use a calendar to notify group members of upcoming events such as health seminars.

"Our program offers students the tools to succeed in pre-health," said Lynn Tran, organizer and facilitator for the program. "Planning for events and providing information on medical news will keep students attuned with the activities around and outside CU-Boulder. The field of health can be difficult so it is important to provide students with every chance to be successful."

The program is funded by the Biological Sciences Initiative, a program of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. For more information contact Scarritt at (303) 492-1406.
