For the first time in two years, the art gallery at the renovated University Memorial Center on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus will host a new public exhibit starting Nov. 1.
"Return to the Free Zone," a show organized by chemistry doctoral student and artist Tanya Plotnick Vega, will debut from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., along with a free catered reception and live music. The gallery is located next to the UMC's second floor reception desk.
Both graduate and undergraduate artists will contribute multimedia works for the five-week exhibit.
"There are about 11 artists in the show," Plotnick Vega said, adding that most are undergraduate art majors. "This show is meant to express a more interesting side of art, with eclectic pieces. There are paint pieces, sculpture, sound pieces and combinations of all."
Plotnick Vega said the exhibit's title expresses what it is like to be in Boulder. "We have referred to it as the 'free zone' because many wonderful things happen in Boulder and it is such a great place to be," she said.
The exhibit is sponsored by the United Government of Graduate Â鶹ÒùÔº and the University of Colorado Student Union.
