Kinko's founder Paul Orfalea will speak to students at the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business Oct. 23 on his unique perspective on inspiring co-workers and leading an international organization.
Orfalea founded Kinko's in 1970 near the University of California at Santa Barbara with the goal of providing college students with products and services at a competitive price. Kinko's is now the world's leading document services chain, with more than 1,100 locations worldwide.
Under Orfalea's management, Kinko's balanced profitability with corporate responsibility. Fortune magazine selected Kinko's as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work With in America" for three years in a row. Forbes magazine ranked the company 84th among "Forbes 500 Biggest Private Companies" in 2000. In 2001, Working Mother magazine listed Kinko's among its "Best Companies for Working Mothers."
Orfalea retired from Kinko's in 2000 and is no longer involved with the business. His family foundation supports educational initiatives, focusing on early care, work-life standards, intergenerational programs and learning differences.
He frequently lectures throughout the nation at institutions including the University of Southern California, Princeton and the Wharton School of Business.
