A search committee has been named to identify finalists for the position of dean of the School of Law at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Harold Bruff, the current dean, will complete his seventh year in that position in June. Bruff announced his resignation in August, citing his eagerness to resume teaching and writing and to spend more time with his family. He will remain at CU-Boulder as a law professor.
Daniel Sher, dean of the College of Music, has been named chair of the search committee. Sher said the committee's goal is to recommend a list of finalists to the provost by March 1. The new dean would then begin his or her duties in time for the 2003 fall semester.
The School of Law was established in 1892 and it is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools, organized in 1901. It was recently ranked 16th in the nation out of 180 law schools in the highly regarded Journal of Legal Studies' Educational Quality Rankings by Brian Leiter, professor of law at the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Leiter also ranked the faculty 15th in the nation in academic and professional quality.
Members of the search committee include law school professors Barbara Bintliff, Paul Campos, Sarah Krakoff, Mark Lowenstein, Pierre Schlag, Marianne "Mimi" Wesson, Ahmed White and Charles Wilkinson. The student representative is Anna Vasquez Bond, the staff representative is Jean Kline, assistant to the dean, and the community representatives are G. Lane Earnest, attorney, Caplan & Earnest LLP, and Sherry Gonzales, president, Colorado Hispanic Bar Association. Bernadette Langbein, assistant to the provost, will staff the search committee and Garnett Tatum, director of the department of equal opportunity, will serve as ex-officio member.
