The soccer fields at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Williams Village housing complex are undergoing a restoration process with a new watering agreement established between the university and the city of Boulder.

The project began on Aug. 28 and is expected to last four weeks.

Additional daily watering is required to sustain the new turf. According to Derrick Watson, project manager for the Williams Village Student Housing Expansion project, the university has been in compliance with the city's current watering restrictions and has worked out an agreement with city officials for the new watering requirements.

"The university is reducing watering in areas around the campus to accommodate watering for the fields as part of the plan," Watson said. "We also recently eliminated the use of city potable water to irrigate more than 11 acres of athletic and recreational fields and are now using ditch water to irrigate those areas."

Watering consumption for the three acres that constitute the fields will be at its highest point during the first week of the project and will decrease for the final three weeks.

The fields are used by campus intramural clubs and current Williams Village residents, and are managed by Recreation Services, a program of the University of Colorado Student Union.
