The Denver Business Journal has named Kathryn Simon, director of CU-Boulder's Robert H. and Beverly A. Deming Center for Entrepreneurship, an outstanding woman in business in the area of banking and finance.

The journal recognized 10 women who have made significant contributions to their work and community at the fourth annual Outstanding Women in Business luncheon on Aug. 8. Simon was among more than 70 finalists in 10 categories.

Finalists were chosen based on nominations from members of the community. Winners were selected by three judges: Monique Reece, marketing and management consultant and Denver Business Journal columnist; Keller Hayes, president of the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce; and Kim Schneider, family business management consultant and Denver Business Journal columnist.

The Deming Center for Entrepreneurship is a joint program between the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business and the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Simon was named Deming Center director in the fall of 2000. Under her direction the Deming Center's entrepreneurship program at the Leeds School of Business has been named among the top 20 national MBA entrepreneurship programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report magazine for three years running.
