Mary Covell, business manager of the University Memorial Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been appointed to the position of associate director, according to Carlos Garcia, UMC director.

The appointed has been approved by Chancellor Richard Byyny and is effective immediately. She replaces former assistant director J.C. Ancell, who retired in January.

Covell, a CU-Boulder alumna, joined the UMC as business manager last June. She has served as assistant director for business and information technology services on an interim basis since February. In her new position, Covell will continue to oversee the UMC business office, the IT department and the games area. She also will serve as liaison to the building's non-food vendors and assist Garcia with administrative needs.

Covell received her bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting from CU-Boulder and is a certified public accountant. She brings 24 years of experience in the academic and private sectors to her current position, including more than 18 years at CU-Boulder in the Department of Housing, the Recreation Center and the UMC.

The UMC is a memorial center honoring the contributions of Colorado veterans and serves as the university's student union. The newly expanded facility houses offices for student organizations and offers a variety of meeting spaces, services, food and retail outlets, including the CU Book Store.
