Segments of the Bear Creek and Apache Road multiuse paths will be closed for approximately one month each this summer because of the Williams Village student housing expansion project for the University of Colorado at Boulder.Ìý

Effective immediately, the Bear Creek multiuse path between Apache Road and Baseline Road will be closed. At least one path, either Apache Road or Bear Creek, will be maintained at all times to provide an appropriate detour route during the relocation of each path.

In about one month, construction of a temporary bicycle path along the corridor will be completed in order to provide access for bicyclists and pedestrians during construction. Detour signs will direct path users to travel on the Apache Road bicycle path to Baseline Road, which has on-street bicycle lanes and connects to the Bear Creek Path.

Once the temporary path along Bear Creek is accessible to path users, the Apache Road multiuse path will be closed. A temporary bicycle path will be constructed within the U.S. 36 right of way just west of the existing north-south path along Apache Road in order to maintain access for bicyclists and pedestrians. It is anticipated that the Apache Road path will be closed to users for about one month beginning in early August.

The developers, American Campus Communities and Swinerton Builders, plan to make 495 beds available for occupancy in 2003 and 499 more in 2004, for a total of 994 beds. Housing for an additional 1,000 students would be available in fall 2008, given favorable market conditions.

An official groundbreaking ceremony will be held in August.
