The University of Colorado at Boulder Office of Community Affairs will host a public meeting on the "Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day" walk on Wednesday, July 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Darley Commons, room 103, in the Williams Village complex at 30th Street and Baseline Road.

The "Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day" is a national fundraiser taking place in 13 cities during summer 2002.

The purpose of the meeting at CU-Boulder is to provide information about the event's opening ceremony, which will be on Friday, Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Williams Village, according to Erin Frazier, community and events outreach coordinator for the Office of Community Affairs. Organizers also will review the route that participants will take through Boulder on their way to Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High, where they will complete their trek on Sunday, Aug. 4.

An estimated 2,500 people, including about 2,200 walkers, are expected to gather at Williams Village for the opening ceremony before they begin their three-day journey to Denver.

Net proceeds generated by the walk are distributed through the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade and are used to support cancer centers, medical centers, service organizations and breast health programs nationwide with a focus on early detection in medically underserved women.
