An anonymous donor has contributed 1,500 classical compact discs to the University of Colorado at Boulder's Music Library, increasing the library's CD collection by more than 12 percent.
The CDs are primarily piano music and will make the library's holdings of recorded classical piano music one of the most complete in the country.
The gift will be known as the Ian Gindes Collection, in honor of a former student of the donor.
Gindes, 23, of California, was the donor's most promising student. Gindes is now a graduate piano performance student at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and is an active performer. He also donates his time performing at nursing homes and retirement communities in Greeley.
The donor first contacted CU's Music Library this spring and completed a gift agreement in mid-May. Most of the CDs already have been received by the library, with the remainder expected by the end of July.
Access to the Music Library's collection is available to non-university patrons who are registered through CU's Norlin Library. The Music Library is located on the second floor of the Imig Music Building at East Euclid Avenue and 18th Street. The music collection can be used at the library but is not available to be checked out.
