The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) selected the University of Colorado at Boulder's "International Prospective Student Web Site" for a gold medal in the CASE Circle of Excellence Awards.

The site beat out both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Georgia Institute of Technology sites.

One hundred ninety entries were judged, from which four gold medals, seven silver medals and three bronze medals were awarded. Other winners of the gold medal included Cornell University, Lewis and Clark College and the University at Buffalo.

The prospective international student site is the first to be launched as part of a comprehensive effort to redesign all of the prospective student Web sites at CU-Boulder, said Joanna Linebarger, a Web coordinator in the Web Communications office at CU-Boulder.

"We are creating a one-stop-shop approach that will be a central starting place for freshmen, transfer, graduate and international students interested in enrolling in the university, whether to earn a degree or take a course online," Linebarger said.

"The previous international site was hard to locate, had separate sites for undergraduate and graduate students, was difficult to navigate and did not address many of the questions or needs of international students," she said. "We saw a need to create an integrated recruitment Web site for both undergraduate and graduate international students that addresses the particular needs of this population."

The Web site includes a quick fact sheet for students who have limited access to the Internet to get the information they need quickly. It also has a self-evaluation process that guides them to the appropriate academic level, as well as a downloadable admissions application.
