University of Colorado at Boulder music Professor Janet Montgomery will begin a two-year term as president of the Colorado Music Educators Association on May 1.
Professor Montgomery, who teaches music education in the College of Muisc, has already served two years as president-elect.
Montgomery received her doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from Wichita State University. Before she joined the faculty at the University of Colorado at Boulder, she was associate professor and chair of Music Education at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.
She also taught general music in the Wichita, Kansas, public schools. Her recent publications include a co-authored chapter in "The New Handbook of Research on Music Teaching and Learning (2002)," and articles on scientific research about musical learning and teaching special learners in "Music Express," a magazine for music teachers of K-6 students.
Montgomery is a program author for "The Music Connection, K-8," and her research covers history of music education, psychology of music learning and teacher education in a postmodern society.
The Colorado Music Educators Association serves music teachers at the K-12 and university levels. The organization's mission is to promote and improve music education in Colorado.
