The CU-Boulder School of Law honored several students and faculty and staff for making a difference during the 2001-02 school year.

Professor Scott Peppet received the Excellence in Teaching Award. He was selected from a field that included Professors Melissa Hart and Wayne Gazur and visiting Associate Professor Jack Graves. The award is voted on by the student body and goes to the faculty member that enhances the educational experience for students both inside and outside the classroom.

"It means a great deal to me to be awarded such an honor by the students here," said Peppet. "Our students are very bright and work very hard, and I'm grateful to them for making the last two years here so enjoyable for me. I try to look at each class from the students' point of view - to step into their shoes in advance of class and think about what they might not understand, what could be more clear, how to make the class more interesting."

Other recipients include:

* The Barbara B. Leggate Humanitarian Award to a staff member who has done the most to make the law school a more tolerable and humane place for students: Cindy Gibbons.

* The SBA-Sutcliffe Award to the student who has shown outstanding dedication and service to the law school community: Lisa Teesch-Maguire.

* Lifetime Humanitarian Award: Barbara B. Leggate.

* Outstanding Visiting Professor in Recognition of Excellence in Teaching Award: Jack Graves.

* The Don W. Sears Awards to the students who have made the greatest contribution to the classroom learning experience: Lucas U. Lorenz, Jessica Lyn Curtis, Ian Ray Mitchell and Tobi J. Mott.
