Nobel laureate and CU-Boulder Distinguished Professor Carl Wieman will speak to the Boulder chapter of the CU-Boulder Alumni Association on April 16 to honor local high school students selected to receive $2,500 scholarships.
The Boulder Alumni Scholarship Reception will be held between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Koenig Alumni Center, located at the corner of Broadway and University Avenue on the CU-Boulder campus. The event is free and open to the public. A light dessert will be served.
Three Boulder Valley School District students will receive scholarships from the alumni chapter to be used toward their studies at CU-Boulder beginning next fall.
Wieman is a distinguished professor of physics who has taught at CU-Boulder since 1984. He is a co-winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in physics for his role in the 1995 creation of the world's first Bose-Einstein condensate, a new form of matter that occurs at less than a millionth of a degree above absolute zero.
The event also will feature a performance by the CU-Boulder a cappella student musical group Extreme Measures.
