Journalists and photographers from The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News will share their views on the challenges and rewards of reporting on military operations in Afghanistan at the University of Colorado at Boulder at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, in the Hale Science Building, room 270.
The panel discussion, "The Assignment of a Lifetime: Covering War in Afghanistan," will include two alumni from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
"Some of the reporters and photographers being sent to Afghanistan have never been involved in war coverage," said Associate Dean Meg Moritz, panel moderator. "In fact, some have never had a foreign assignment.
"We know this is dangerous and in several cases deadly work. Yet, journalists are often eager to go. We wanted our students to explore the realities of work in Afghanistan with our distinguished panelists."
Scheduled participants include Michelle Fulcher, a 1978 CU-Boulder graduate, now national editor of The Denver Post, and Steve Lipsher, a 1989 CU-Boulder graduate and Denver Post reporter who spent three months in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Other panelists who have recently returned from Afghanistan and Pakistan are Dave Olinger, Denver Post investigative reporter, Trent Seibert, Denver Post reporter and Craig Walker, Denver Post photographer. Also on the panel is Ann Imse, a Rocky Mountain News reporter who has covered conflict in the Balkins.
