Professor Stewart Hoover of the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication has been named interim dean of the school, according to Provost Phil DiStefano.
The appointment is pending approval by the CU Board of Regents in March.
Dean Del Brinkman announced his resignation earlier this month citing health and family concerns. Brinkman has been dean since January 2001.
A national search for Brinkman's replacement will be launched either before or at the beginning of the next academic year, DiStefano said, with a new dean likely to be announced sometime in spring or early summer 2003.
"Stewart Hoover was my first and only choice for interim dean," DiStefano said. "He did an outstanding job as interim dean before Del Brinkman's arrival and he will continue the initiatives that Dean Brinkman began, including the completion of a strategic plan."
Prior to Brinkman's appointment, Hoover served as interim dean from July 1999 to January 2001.
Hoover joined the faculty in 1991. Prior to coming to CU-Boulder he held several positions in the School of Communications and Theater at Temple University.Ìý
He earned his doctorate in mass communication at the University of Pennsylvania and is an internationally recognized authority on broadcast and print media coverage of religion news.
CU-Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication provides a variety of degree programs for students interested in journalism careers. Undergraduate program offerings include advertising, broadcast news, broadcast production management, news-editorial and media studies.Ìý
