The Cultural Events Board of the University of Colorado at Boulder will host a talk by Rubin "Hurricane" Carter about his personal experiences on Friday, Feb. 21, to foster deeper understanding of the racial issues surrounding professional sports.

The talk, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., will be in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center on the CU-Boulder campus. Â鶹ÒùÔº who present a valid CU ID will be admitted free of charge. The cost for others is $5.Ìý

Rubin Carter was a prominent boxer with a bright future, labeled the best boxer by many in the early 1960s. In 1966 he was accused of triple murder and was sentenced to three lifetime sentences in a federal penitentiary in 1967, despite what some claimed were holes in the prosecution's arguments.

In February 1988 the trial was dismissed and Carter, an accomplished author by then, was a free man. Carter's insights into racism in certain arenas of American life are both illuminating and touching.
