CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business Associate Professor Tom Dean has been elected chair of the entrepreneurship division at the Academy of Management.

The Academy of Management is the world's premier organization of management academics and is dedicated to spreading knowledge about management and organizations. Membership in the academy is comprised of scholars from colleges, universities and research institutions as well as practitioners from business, government and not-for-profit organizations. It has 12,000 members in 77 countries.

As chair, Dean will spearhead the entrepreneurship division's annual conference in August, help establish strategic direction for the division and serve as program chair. Dean has served on the board for the division for four years and will serve one more term as past chair after he completes this year's duties.

"Demand for courses in entrepreneurship at business schools throughout the world is growing substantially with the realization that entrepreneurship is the key to economic development, personal freedom and wealth creation," said Dean. "I am honored to have been elected to this prestigious position."

Dean's position at the Academy of Management brings further acclaim to the Leeds School of Business's entrepreneurship program. The MBA entrepreneurship program is ranked 16th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The CU Deming Center for Entrepreneurship spearheads internships, mentoring, guest speakers and seminars.

Dean earned his doctorate degree in strategic management from CU-Boulder and has been at the Leeds School of Business since 1999.
