The Building Community Campaign at CU-Boulder will sponsor an interactive theater performance on Thursday, Nov. 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the University Memorial Center's Dennis Small Cultural Center, room 305.

Titled "What Will Happen Next?" the short piece portrays the reactions of several fictional CU-Boulder students when they encounter racist graffiti on campus. The rest of the event will be filled by a discussion of the scene's issues.

An evening performance of the piece will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., also in the Dennis Small Cultural Center. Both events are free and open to the public. Free snacks and beverages will be provided.

The special nature of interactive theater is that it gives audience members a chance to ask the characters questions after the initial scene. Actors remain in character and respond to questions and comments from the audience as their characters might.

Scenarios are carefully chosen to provoke lively discussion of their subject matter. "Interactive theater is a wonderful educational tool for getting at the depths of issues," said CU senior Kate Treanor, who performs in the scene. "You find out everyone's opinions."

The theater piece was written and produced by Rebecca Brown, creator and director of the Interactive Theatre Project at CU-Boulder.

"What Will Happen Next?" is the second event in an ongoing discussion series sponsored by the Building Community Campaign. The series is designed to foster dialogue about tough issues facing members of the CU-Boulder community. The organization also has planned discussion groups and speakers in addition to the interactive theater performances.
