The University of Colorado School of Law's Silicon Flatirons Telecommunications Program will hold a conference titled "The Challenges of Convergence" on Monday, Oct. 8, in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom.

The forum, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., will address the technical, business and legal aspects of technological convergence.

A panel of speakers will explore how the convergence of the telecommunications, computing and entertainment industries continues to transform the American economy and society. It will affect businesses, for example, by requiring them to evaluate a changing technological and commercial environment as regulators will be challenged by new types of products that threaten to undermine the existing regulatory structure.

"The opportunity to bring together some of the foremost experts who appreciate the relationship between the technological, business and regulatory aspects of convergence is a special opportunity for the Silicon Flatirons Telecommunications Program," said Phil Weiser, the program's executive director, who will moderate the discussion. "I look forward to an insightful and very interesting program."

Scheduled participants include James Lewis, senior vice president of law and public policy at WorldCom, Don Gips, global corporate development director for Level 3 Communications, and Dale Hatfield, director of the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program at CU-Boulder and former chief of the Office of Engineering and Technology at the FCC, among others.

A reception will immediately follow the seminar. Seating will be limited for this event, so please register in advance. For more information, contact Adam Peters at adam.peters@colorado.edu.
